The Hayle Handicap Race 2007

22 runners lined up for the 2007 handicap race. A race which is based on P.b. times and which anyone can win. For the first time in the race's history a decision was made to add an extra handicap to Ollie Lewarne and Val Brennen using the rule which states that in the event of a runner only having 1 P.b which is deemed to be unrepresentative of the runners ability, an extra handicap can be added. As Ollie had progressed massively since  Redruth 10K and Val had run her only P.b. escorting a friend, it was decided to add 6 mins 20 seconds to Ollie and 2 mins 26 seconds to Val. Both runner very sportingly agreed to their extra handicaps and it made them even more determined to win.

The runners went off one by one until 35 minutes after the watch had started, Pete Ellis completed the line up. We went to the finish line to wait anxiously for the first home. We didn't have to wait too long. Charlie Holden had made his way to the front of the field and was running strongly up the hill, crossing the line then throwing up ( a tradition started by Victoria Rogers ). Charlie had knocked 6 minutes 14 seconds off his P.b to win the Handicap cup.

Second in was Kathryn Peters beating her p.b by  4 mins 23 secs  and third Wendy Pascoe who knocked off  3 mins 14 seconds. There were also P.b's for Anthony Burrows (3mins 5secs) Jayne Angilly (2mins 59secs) Ollie Lewarne (2mins 47secs or an actual P.b of 9mins 27 secs), Val Brennen (2mins 34 secs or an actual P.b of 5 mins) Mike Robinson (55 secs) , Iona Sanders (55 secs) Caroline Lewis (51 secs) and Louise Quick (31 secs)
