Why Join A Club?
Join a club, and you'll have plenty of like-minded people to share your hobby with, to encourage you when you can't be bothered, to help you when you are going wrong, and to help you push yourself to discover reserves you didn't even know you had. You'll also have people to compare yourself against and to pick up tips from. "It will give you training partners, increase your motivation, add competition opportunities, and give access to advice from experienced runners and coaches, which will all add up to make you a better, stronger, faster runner,"
Thinking of joining us ? ... Never run before? ... Worried you won't be able to keep up?
Well
worry no more! Hayle Runners pride themselves in catering for all abilities,
from complete novices to 5 minute milers. That's why we have 8 dedicated
coaches. Three are especially devoted to non runners and will give you one to
one training if you would prefer (all included in the membership fee). They will
take you for walk/runs of increasing distance until you are able to run 5-6
miles comfortably. Then you can join in with the main group. We can also target
races for you. If you've always wanted to run a Half Marathon or even a
Marathon, we can help you get up to that distance and you will be guaranteed
huge support on the race day and a friendly bunch of hayle runners waiting for
you at the finish line.
The club meets at Hayle Rugby Club on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7pm and we also meet up on Sunday mornings for longer training runs (usually marathon training)
Mondays We also provide swimming coaching !! Monday nights at 8.30 at St Ives pool, Alan Reid takes us for swimming lessons. In groups ranging from weak beginners to strong 400m sets
Tuesdays We normally have 30-50 runners who split into 5 groups of differing abilities. We run between 2 and 7 miles. In the summer we concentrate on dune and beach runs as well as some quiet road running. There are also walk/run groups (of 2 or 3) who will do anything between 1 and 4 miles. In the winter we stick to road running through Hayle. Alternating between hill work and distance. The runs normally last an hour and there are changing rooms and showers available at the end and of course a bar !

speeds/distances click here
Thursdays are as above but the majority of the club choose to attend our Level 3 coaches sessions at Carn brea. There we have 3 or more coaches who take groups of differing speeds over a selection of drills (Don't worry if this sounds a bit intimidating. Its not! Because we're running round in circles you run to your own pace with a group of runners of similar ability. If you'd prefer the social running, There is still the normal run from the rugby club.
Sundays
These runs start from one of the club members houses and are usually aimed at
Marathon training. They increase by a mile a week starting from about 12 miles
and getting up to around 21 miles. There are different ability groups and
refreshments are provided around the course (and after) If you've got your eyes
on a marathon, these runs are a must !
Races We take part in the Cornish Grand prix series which consists of 14 races varying from 5miles to Marathon distance. (See the list under "races") If you would like to take part in one, It couldn't be simpler. a month or so before a race, I come round the club with a clip board and ask you. All you need do is say "yes" and turn up on the day. I will arrange your entry and pick your race number up for you. You just come and find me at the Hayle check in desk and pay the race fee direct to me. This means that Hayle runners don't have to queue up like everyone else. (This service is unique to Hayle)
Running Shoes The biggest mistake made by new runners is in buying their shoes. Unfortunately the large high street "sports" shops often don't have qualified assistances to check your running "gait" and recommend the correct shoes for you. We recommend The Cornwall Running Store at Wadebridge or Frank Elford in Plymouth. Both have a great knowledge in running shoes and will check your gait free of charge. (click on the links to visit their websites)
If you've already bought your shoes, Don't worry. For the first few months when your mileage is low, they're not going to hurt. But as you progress over 5 of 6 miles, you'll need to get your gait analyzed.
